March 3, 2010

Eric AveryJane’s Addiction bassist Eric Avery has left the band, for the second time.

Following the completion of Australia’s Soundwave Festival, Avery announced his departure from the band on his Twitter account on Monday, writing, “thats it. with equal parts regret and relief, the janes addiction experiment is at an end.”

Guitarist Dave Navarro confirmed Avery’s departure on Tuesday, saying on his Twitter account, “Yes, Eric Avery has left the band. More to come but we wish him all the best!”

Singer Perry Farrell also responded by writing on his Twitter account “Slipping out of that shell of a past. Gripping; wow we’re onto something faster now. And so worth the wait. It’s the Art Of Great Escape.”

After Jane’s Addiction broke up for the first time in 1991, the band briefly reunited in 1997 and again in 2001, both times Avery declined to participate until he finally rejoined in 2008.

The rumors are swirling that Avery has been replaced by former Guns N’ Roses Duff McKagan.
