Jazz Legend Sir John Dankworth Dies at 82

John DankworthSir John Dankworth, the British jazz composer, saxophonist and bandleader has died at 82.

His wife the jazz singer Dame Cleo Laine announced his death before the finale of an anniversary concert at The Stables, the theater they founded together.

Dankworth wrote the theme tune for TV shows ‘The Avengers’ and ‘Tomorrow’s World’ and films including ‘Modesty Blaise’ and ‘Darling’.

He worked with some of the biggest jazz names including Ella Fitzgerald and Nat King Cole.

John Dankworth was knighted in 2006 by Queen Elizabeth II for services to music.
